about

In Irish folklore, the Fear Gorta, whose name means “the Hungry Man”, is a phantom of hunger resembling an emaciated corpse, dressed in either rags or a tattered cloak. Wandering the land it would beg for food from passers-by, blessing the generous with good luck in return. Those who scorned it's appeals however would be cursed with bad luck and an insatiable hunger. Regardless of the blessings or curses it may bestow, the Fear Gorta is always a harbinger of famine.
